ABOUT US

Girl Up McMaster was founded in 2020 by Mac students Amanda Backal and Andrea Jacob. Both Amanda and Andrea have been involved with the campaign for several years and had the opportunity to represent Girl Up through the Teen Advisor program and Team Strong, respectively. They are beyond excited to start Hamilton’s first chapter at McMaster.

Our Focus

Outreach in Hamilton community by partnering with Hamilton businesses, schools and supporting other Girl Up clubs and the Girl Up Campaign.

Our Mission

To engage and empower girls and boys in the Hamilton and global community to be forces of change for gender equality.

Founding & History

The Girl Up campaign was founded by the United Nations Foundation in 2010 as an initiative to help support adolescent girls. One of Girl Up’s overarching goals is to provide adolescent girls in developing countries with an equal chance for education, health, social and economic opportunities, and a life free from violence.

 

Girl Up is a United Nations Foundation adolescent girl campaign, founded in 2010. The campaign’s mission is to raise funds and awareness for girls in developing countries who lack access to education, healthcare, and safety. Girl Up aims to empower girls around the world to become leaders and changemakers in their communities and globally.
